Shelley, Mary

Shelley, Mary
Frankenstein-is mary shelley using the monster to be as ugly as how she feels losing her loved ones and death?

What i mean is that Victor Frankenstein is so angry with the creature and i know Mary Shelley interacts alot of her personal life with the book. So the same way as he sought out to kill the creature bc he took away so many loved ones from him, is that symbolism for death. Idk if i am even making sense. but thanks

Very intuitive of you. Mary Shelley always felt she was responsible for the death of her mother Mary Wolstonecroft who bled to death days after giving birth to Mary. She was a very quiet child who enjoyed spending time writing at cemeteries and frequently dressed in black. Later on after she picked up with Shelley, his wife drowned. I wrote an academic paper on this very subject. It is called Survivor’s Guilt. I very much feel that Mary Shelley modeled The Creature after herself. She was abandoned by her creator -= her mother – and left with a very cold father who didn’t have very much to do with her and pushed her and her bastard sister off onto aunts. Like her Creature, she didn’t know a lot of nurturing either. Her sister later got romantically involved with Byron and when he rejected her, she died of an overdose of laudanum. And Mary’s own first child died as well. Surely something to consider. Pax – C

Robinson, Kim Stanley

Robinson, Kim Stanley
Anybody else a Kim Stanley Robinson fan?

For having won as many awards as he has, I haven’t met many other fans of his.

Well, I loved Red Mars. But unfortunately I get easily bored with the same author and tend to only read one book by them. Dumb I know. But Red Mars was really good he wrote like he knew what he was talking about.

But awards always seem like they are off the mark from what the mass populous is into. Twilight anyone?

Simmons, Dan

You’re probably not the only one who wants to watch Jennifer’s Body.  The film apparently has it all: dark comedy, horror, bloodshed, cheerleaders, and a rock band.  The movie, Jennifer’s Body, was produced by Jason Reitman and Dan Dubiecki. Diablo Cody wrote the screenplay. The director of Girlfight, Karyn Kusama, also served as director for Jennifer’s Body. The title of is taken from a song performed by the group “Hole”.  The plot revolves around a geeky girl in high school named Anita (Amanda Seyfried). Her best friend is the exceptionally beautiful Jennifer (Megan Fox), which might just be the sole reason for male audiences’ motive to watch Jennifer’s Body online.

Of course, being a cheerleader, Jennifer is the toast of the school and endlessly fawned over by the “wannabes” and chased by the boys.  As the film progresses, a Satanic ritual is enacted by the character Nikolai (Adam Brody) and his rock band, wherein a sacrifice needs to be made in trade for a recording contract. The ritual does not go off as planned, and Jennifer becomes possessed by a demon who feeds off the souls and bodies of the boys in her school.  Jennifer’s M.O.  is that of a succubus: seduce boys to get them close to her, then consuming them sexually and physically until they die.

Anita takes on the responsibility of stopping Jennifer’s gruesome killing spree -some awesome death scenes that you can only see when you watch Jennifer’s Body online -  that is victimizing male students at their school.

Cast includes ; Megan Fox (Jennifer Check), Amanda Seyfried (Anita “needy” Lesnicky),Johny Simmons (Chip Dove),Adam Brody(Nickolai Wolf),J.K. Simmons (Mr. Wroblewski),Kyle Gallner (Colin Gray),Amy Sedaris (Toni Lesnicky), Simmons (Mr. Wroblewski), Kyle Gallner (Colin Gray), Amy Sedaris (Toni Lesnicky), Cynthia Stevenson (Mrs. Dove), Carrie Genzel (Mrs. Check, Jean Riedinger (Dirk), Chris Pratt (Officer Roman Duda), Juno Ruddell (Officer Warzak), Keegan Sigurnjak (Meek School Nerd), and Aman Johal (Ahmet from India).

The shooting on this film was scheduled to begin in 2007, but the strike of the Writers Guild of America caused shooting to be pushed back to March 2008.  Burnaby, British Columbia was the shooting location for the film. There are a number of scenes that were filmed near Cariboo Hill Secondary School, at Robert Burnaby Park. A number of Vancouver locations were also utilized.  Music by such artists as Dashboard Confessional, Panic at the Disco, Hayley Williams, Cobra Starship, and All Time Low can be heard on the soundtrack.
